Six years ago, the representatives of the Matisse family contacted me about designing and producing rugs based on the artist’s work. We had a number of meetings, but they could not decide what they wanted to do. Now, the Matisse designs are royalty-free, and I am at liberty to produce the rugs that I have always wanted to do. These Matisse Cutouts rugs mirror the original designs in pattern and color, and the transition to rugs is amazing! The vibrant colors pop, and the patterns work beautifully on the floor or on the wall.

Each design is carefully reproduced, and then I select the colors and the material: New Zealand wool or NZ wool and natural silk, creating various price points that will work for most consumers. The sheen of the silk plays off of the matte surface of the New Zealand wool.

The rugs are made to order in Nepal using 100 knots per square inch. The quality of the rugs is superb, as the rug artisans in Nepal are the finest in the world. Over time, we will add more and more Matisse Cutouts patterns to this collection. Just let us know what you want. All rugs will be made to order, and will be shipped to you directly from Nepal in six to eight weeks, depending upon the size of the rug.
